Research Initiation Grants

The purpose of the International Development Research Initiation Grants (IDRIGs) program is to stimulate innovative research proposals and to promote new knowledge about international development. Foreign travel and per diem support of up to $2,000 will be awarded to competitive applications from Center for Advanced Study of International Development (CASID) and Women and International Development (WID) core and consulting faculty for IDRIGs. IDRIGs are funded under CASID/WID's Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education to operate as a National Resource Center for Foreign Language and International Studies, with matching funds from departments and colleges.

Preference in awarding IDRIGs will be given to applicants whose research is related to one of these thematic foci:

  • Globalization, Poverty and Inequality
  • Space, Place and Identity
  • Ethics of International Research, Development and Collaboration
  • Environment, Resource Management and Sustainability
  • Health and Educational Disparities in Global Perspective

IDRIG applications for the 2009/2010 academic year will be accepted through December 4, 2009. Awards will be announced by December 18, 2009.
